In order to bring to life the emotionally charged and broken Romeo in a realistic way, the actor, unlike most of his peers in the mainstream film industry, took an interesting.
He spent many weeks creating a journal but not just any journal. He journaled as if he were Romeo, detailing the character’s life and mental evolution as he aged from childhood to adulthood.
He trained in the area of expressive movement in order to understand how trauma was physically stored in various areas of the body such as the eye contact, breathing, and of course, the posture.
He also recalled various memories from his own past and in interviews he would describe how certain scenes of the movie were particularly difficult to film because they reminded him of areas of his personal past that he would prefer to not revisit.
He is not just acting anymore, and, by the time that filming started, he had become Romeo.
