The Jungle That Almost Broke Them: Behind the Scenes of The Lost City

Health Hazards and Jungle Realities
Shooting in the Dominican Republic jungle posed significant challenges. The crew suffered from a universally communicable stomach ailment and the absence of port-a-potties was particularly problematic. Nevertheless, Bullock found the experience rewarding because of the “magical” sense of cooperation, community, and shared objectives achieved by the entire filming team.
Wardrobe Woes: The Fuchsia Jumpsuit
Loretta, Bullock’s character, wears a fuchsia sequined jumpsuit during the jungle sequence. The jumpsuit was certainly a striking addition to the wardrobe, but it also posed problems. Bullock confessed that, given the impracticality of the jumpsuit in a jungle-scenery, it was understandable that filming in a jungle would be problematic. Nevertheless, she justified it as the feminine archetype of “super-hero-ness” that was necessary to perform the action scenes in the film. After filming in high-heeled shoes for a long time, the discomfort caused by the jumpsuit was significant. The Dynamic Duo: Directors Aaron and Adam Nee
